We’RE HEADING BACK TO THE RANCH!

Based on the tremendous response we had to first-ever Champetre Showdown, we are heading back to the ranch for this year’s Howlin Coyote Pack Ride. There will be 2 days of great adventure riding and you can choose from either day solo or take in the whole weekend. Day 1 supper and Day 2 breakfast and bag lunch are provided with your entry fee. Please reach out directly to Champetre Country if you wish to secure camping (tent or trailer) or a cabin/bunkhouse/room. .

EVENT DETAILS

The Riding:

We’re still fine tuning the routes but rides for Saturday are targeted at a whopper of 160km (100mi) and shorter distance of 70km. Sunday will each feature a choice of 120 kms or 60km. Both days will capture some prime prairie gravel and double track, with rolling hills, leg- and -lung-challenging climbs, and salt lakes vistas. Note: 120-160km are very long days (6-10hrs) of gravel riding and you should only target these distances if you are an experienced gravel rider and have been preparing for adventure rides of this distance, This style of riding does not compare at all to times spent riding highways and tarmac.

The Western Experience:

  • A real wild west saloon

  • Sheriff

  • Group bonfire at night

Location:

Champetre County, an easy 30-minute drive east of Saskatoon. It’s a “family owned, country themed special event venue offering catering, overnight accommodations and western themed activities.

Time:

Saturday and Sunday rides will start and end at Champetre County. To beat the heat, rides on both days will start at 8 am.

Recommended / Required Equipment

 Required Equipment

Bike

Bike appropriate for 100km+ / day on mixed trail and variable gravel road conditions.  Gravel Bike, Cyclocross bike or Mountain bike recommended (In order). Trails are non-technical, but some parts have rough surfaces.

Road or Touring tires will not be appropriate and thus not allowed. There are significant off road portions of this event that would favor a file tread gravel tire as a minimum.

Water bottles

We will have water available during the event, but you should be prepared for up to 3 hours of riding in July heat between water stops. This would suggest that at least 3 large bottles should be considered a bare minimum, with 4+ bottles or combination of bottles and hydration systems preferred.

navigation skills - GPS Device or paper navigation

Important Course is not marked in advance.

It is required that participants be able to navigate the course without external assistance and to be able to return to the course if off track in a safe manner.

Mobile Phone

One Phone Per Rider - Riders will not be permitted to start the ride without an operating, adequately charged mobile phone

We require riders to have a Mobile Phone for emergency and non-emergency event assistance. Riders may have long waits for the sweep vehicle, so should be prepared to communicate with emergency services independently if needed. A list of emergency numbers will be provided at the event sign on. Note: there may be portions of the route where cell service is minimal or not available.

 Clothing

Appropriate clothing for Saskatchewan summer conditions including wet weather gear.

Bike Repair Kit

You will be more than 100km from any bike shop, so you should be capable of repairing your bike en-route sufficiently to allow you to finish the event. In the event of a major equipment failure, we will transport you and your bike to the start/finish line
